Oh What Tangled Webs They Weave

Oh What Tangled Webs They Weave When Signs Of Progress We Perceive....Just last summer, looking like some giant industrial spiders web, all of these power lines and steel stringing cables were part of the construction of new sub station up the road. Though I hated the intrusion, at the time I just supposed we needed the upgrade since the old power lines and poles were pretty ancient and now and then the power would blink or go out during a storm. I even thought that once they were done it might be a good thing. Looking back now, I sure wish that was all it had been. As it turns out it wasn't for the homes and or families along these rural roads, it was for the new additions over at the mining company. They needed the increased power for a new expansion that they were planning. Again, looking back I realize that's kind of funny because I think the power line work started even though the township hadn't even voted on or approved opening the new mines yet. So it was the mines, and not the homes that needed the new lines and sub station. It was for them, not for us. Now, months later the substation is complete, and despite wide spread local protests the new mines are approved and underway. In fact they are now destroying the surrounding country side so fast and to such an extent that ninety nine percent of the homes next to the first new pit just five or six miles down the road are suddenly up for sale. Yep, the new power lines sure didn't do them any good. So-long neighbors, I expect it will soon be our turn.
